A Technical Argument About a Technical Problem

In the essay Stereotype Threat and Woman’s Performance in Engineering, a collection of engineers and psychologist make the argument that harmful stereotypes about women in engineering negatively affect their performance on tests.   The authors are making a call for change and would like the stereotype that women do not make for good engineers to cease in places of learning.  The authors provide ample amounts of hard data to back up their claims and the paper is written in a very even and unemotional manner about a topic that would general be controversial.  By providing data and maintaining a high level of professionalism, the authors present themselves as the experts and appeal to the readers sense of reason.  The most negative aspect of the paper is that because it is so technical it can be tedious to read.  That being said, the credentials of the authors, and the statistics and graphs provided make this a very useful paper to anyone researching the topic.
