Le Louvre
The louvre, a triangle glass pyramid with surrounding expensive restaurants, shops and a great view, among the many other sights in Paris…so I thought. Before this trip, I knew the Louvre as just a glorious sight with not much meaning behind it, kind of like the Eiffel Tower, being that it was built for fun in a sense. Little did I know that it was the home to many famous, priceless, and outstanding artifacts. I use the word artifacts because it is defined as so “an object made by a human being, typically one of cultural or historical interest.” (Google) The works of art in the Louvre defied nature in the way of still being intact in the year 2017, they have seen history and are history in their own way and have made it to present themselves to the world to show how amazing our worlds history is. The Louvre houses Liberty Leading the People, Venus de Milo, and The Mona Lisa. When I was wandering through the gallery of Italian paintings and such, enjoying my time, I see this big crowd held back by a thin line of rope acting as security. I wondered what it could be since the other paintings in the room were not getting as much attention. Suddenly I see what everyone’s eyes are fixed on as my mind slows and I feel a sense of excitement, just like how people describe their first time on a roller coaster. My mind changed from being in a blank state to repeatedly saying, “that’s really her, that’s the painting.” I truly don’t know what it is, but I get excited about art. I really don’t think it reflects my personality much but I really like looking deep into things and figuring out who, what, why, etc. Art is the perfect thing to do that with because you what to think, “what was the painter thinking about, what is this, and why is it in a museum?” There is just so much more to art than paint on a canvas or a piece of rock carved into a shape. Like I stated in my first post (video) “I didn’t even know that the Mona Lisa was a piece located in France,” never mind seeing it with my own eyes. This experience will go down as one of the most spectacular experiences in my life because of the sense of excitement I felt when seeing it. I may be thinking about it too much but it truly is my cup of tea.
