My experience with this final assignment was thoroughly positive. One of the most beneficial aspects of the assignment was the pace of development. After selecting the topic of Elizabethan conceptions of revenge in Hamlet, I launched into research. Benevolently compelled by the Annotated Bibliography assignment, I spent many hours thoroughly extracting scholarly arguments concerning my topic. Then, I was forced to communicate my findings within the bibliography. Writing is a true measurement of understanding. Through articulating the main points within my sources, I gained a better working knowledge of Elizabethan culture and Hamlet. The next developmental segment was the first draft. The bulk of my first draft was grafted from my short paper on Hamlet. This was a refreshingly economical way to use previous research on my topic. Then, for the second draft, I integrated new research and expounded on previous arguments. This process was continued into later drafts. The main challenge of this final assignment was determining what information was pertinent to my thesis. I encountered numerous wonderful arguments, but had to be incredibly selective. This was excellent practice for future graduate research. Because this paper developed slowly, I was given creative space to engage in meaningful scholarship. In addition, I recall my dyke, Austin Bajc, working on this same project during his final semester. This definitely was a challenge to one-up my friend and mentor, adding a jovial perspective to the assignment.
