Morality?

The “Good Man” would be a major thought of the Roman rhetoricians because this man will be of the elite that is making the laws of Rome. Judicial ways of rhetoric are major for the Romans. The civic aspect plays in because it is seen as a duty for those of the elite class. Justice and morality were the basis of a community according to Cicero. This shows that they are heavy hitters in the rhetoric of the Romans.

In my culture, some of the major themes that rhetoric discusses is doing the right things and having the qualities of a moral person. The reiteration of the aspects should possess are shown in Irish pieces and there is a punishment in the Irish tales if a person slips into immorality.

The ideas are alike because both Roman and Irish rhetoric believe that people should have morals and find justice. The difference is that in Irish rhetoric these principles can be seen in the Irish stories but for the Romans the good qualities can be shown by how one uses them in the arena of law.

Understanding how rhetorical traditions are alike and different is a major part of reaching the decolonization that is class is working to accomplish.

Draft Response

Your essay gives great, specific facts about fishing. How could you still utilize these phenomenal facts to give the essay more of an informative purpose to go along with the assignment? What personal parts could be removed that seem to make it foggy what you are attempting to say? Precisely, what are the major points of your topic that you could use your facts to support? When reading your essay I here the good information but it seems a little confusing of what your standout main topic is. It seems to jump from your experiences and lakes and fishing.

I chose to start with a praise to encourage the student. I wanted to take a process over product standpoint. I gave questions to facilitate the process instead of just giving answers. I tried to focus on helping the student to focus on one goal at a time of choosing to narrow down what he is trying to say and how using his facts. i wanted to also give a play by play of what the essay comes off as as a reader of the piece.

Reading Response 2 (86-108)

To begin, Graham Wallas’ process of answering seems to relate extremely well to a person trying to come up with a thesis for an essay. Another point the reading touched upon was that people seem to be happy, as we have discussed in class if they are invested personally in their work. Next, the ideas of role models and influence of others seems to be visited in James Britton’s point. The fire story reminds me of how one can make a connotation different by choosing different words. The reading seems to argue one writes better when they are interested in the topic at hand. Also, the discussion of assimilation and accommodation reminds me of learning math where one builds on prior knowledge. It is attention grabbing to incorporate other disciplines to be able to teach writing. I think that is extremely unique. Another part of the reading that was interesting is how progression happens with age. Also, the reading showed the driving questions behind basic forms of writing. In the part about absolute writing it sounds like the plain writing we discussed last class. Lastly, the reading made a point hat one must be challenged to grow.

Reading Response 1 (22-34)

Writing seems to be hard to study because it is always growing. Similarly to the author, I like to begin my writing on paper. In the reading, there is importance placed on the time allowed for construction of writing. I use prewriting to collect thoughts sometimes. I like to get my three main points sorted out in my head sometimes. Next, the reading seems to show writing is a growing accumulation of knowledge through life. Another point of the writing is there was a part that seemed to reference turning bullets into longer thoughts. On another note, when going through my papers or writing of any type I never fail to find an error. Towards the finale of the reading, it seems to point out that one must play many roles to write a piece and you can always learn more.
