Was it a Circus or a Debate

Painful. That what I describe the debate as. It was painful to watch and borderline uncomfortable. Kennedy did not beat Nixon that badly, and I have little doubt that this debate will go down as one of the most one sided in history.

Hillary Clinton came out immediately and set a tone and tempo that Donald Trump struggled to match. She hit all of her talking points on her tax plan, support for clean energy, and how to deal with the Islamic State. Meanwhile whenever Donald Trump attempted to go after her, like with her emails, she was able to carefully steer the question back to what she wanted to discuss, which was her great strength as Trump lacked even a simple knowledge of many issues. She appeared confident during the whole debate, and was not rattled by the barbs Trump threw from across the stage.

Trump attempted to come out strong, setting the stage by painting a picture of a United States that has been taken advantage of during the past 8 years, and trying to portray himself as the alternative to the status quo. However in this, particularly on trade he abandoned traditional republican principles of free trade, advocating that trade be restricted in order to benefit the United States. Hillary Clinton consistently baited Donald Trump, and he fell for it nearly every time. He was off topic and looked distinctly immature as he argued with the moderator, showing how unaccustomed he is to moderated debates where he cannot control the narrative through sheer force of personality. A particular gaffe was when he said Hillary Clinton had been,”Fighting ISIS her entire adult life” making zero sense.

In effect, I think that this debate just decided the election. Independent voters in swing states like Ohio and Pennsylvania just saw a man in way over his head, while Hillary Clinton looked supremely confident. This debate just decided the election mark my words.
