The Global gender gap is meant to be the differences between male and females. This can be determined through rights, laws, work, and gender roles. In America, the gender gap is rather large, and one of the bigger issues in America is the wage gap between the genders. According to the global gender gap report, the US ranks #28 in the world. This is due to the large number of gender gap issues that is going on in the United States, unlike those that are going on in Iceland, which has very few making it the #1 country in the world per Gender Gap Report.

Save the Children is a report based more towards society for mothers and children growing up. In this report, the US falls down to #33, while Iceland is #3. What makes Iceland so different to where it is able to stay consistently in the top 5 for gender issues is the fact that it is a very gender equality society. The wage gap issues, working mother issues, and even mental health issues are not as prevalent in Iceland as they are in America.

The bottom countries based on the Save the Children report all come from Africa. This is partly due to the environment, economically, that they are living in. Many of these countries are known to be 3rd world countries, that are in a constant state of poverty. Other reasons are the very traditional patrilineal societies that take place in these countries. These societies still believe males are to be held in higher standing than the females. This can get both mentally and physically abusive towards females, even killing them at points. The gender gap in these countries is almost beyond repair, and is the reason why they are the worst countries to live in if you are a female and/or a mother.
