Corruption in Chinese Politics

China Corruption

Last December China decided to announce the indictment of former security czar Zhou Yongkang on charges of corruption. He is the senior most official to ever be indicted on these charges in the history of the party, and ranks ninth in the politburo. His charges are over his covering up his wife’s crime of murder. His rap sheet is extraordinarily long and like many offenses has gone unchecked for a long time.

As discussed in class, corruption is something that occasionally gets stamped out by going through extreme measures and dies down once the threat of being caught is over. Additionally, it has yet to reach the lower localized elections where corruption is practically advertised. Nevertheless, these measure are looked at in a positive light pertaining to the hopeful future people have with President Xi.
