The Woman of Willendorf of Austria dates back to 24,000 BCE. This statue, made of limestone, stands four feet and three eighths inches (11cm), in additional to its original color from a red ocher. This statue was said to be the most famous female figure in the Paleolithic era. This carving stands out and is quite unique because of the females attributes that are highly exaggerated. Such as her large breasts, curvy physique that emphasizes her belly, hips, and thighs, and finally her belly button.
During this era, a women with that type of body structure was well nourished, healthy, and fertile. Being fertile was considered an important characteristic because it meant the women were able to create and carry children. This figure can be found in the Naturhistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria.
Compared to the Bison at the Le Tuc d’Audoubert of France from 13,000 BCE . This sculpture has a length of 25 inches (63.5 cm).
The carving consist of two bisons with a relief- built up the clay on top of the rock formation. Both Pieces are said to be sculpture in the round which means they’re 3D figures.
