I think the author choose to formate the article, in such a way that it mocks the bible for particular reasons. We all know that Bible is holy text of scriptures, some of which many people live by. This book contains what some believe to be the beginning of man.
The bible starts out with the book of Genesis, which is the first book of both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. The book is centered around the idea that God created the world and appoints man. This is similar to what Steinberg does in the introduction to The Bitch Who Has Everything. She introduces Ruth Handler, who is also the creator of Barbie. Ruth, whose suppose to be a symbolic representation of God, has now created both Ken and Barbie just like God created both Adam and Eve.
This rhetorical choice works for Steinberg because of the significant role Barbie has played in many lives, primarily young girls. Just like how many adults look to the bible for help, answers, or even guidance, in some way shape or form the bible has effected them. For many young girls, the idea of Barbie was perfection. Barbies were considered to be beautiful and all the young girls wanted to be like her and look like her. However, for many little girls who did not look like Barbie, it has effected them in more ways than one. This is why the author choose to formate the introduction in such a way to show the connection between the two. For many girls, Barbie is their bible to live by. Perfection.
