An open meeting was held to discuss the topic of the Confederate flag. The main question that was posed was “is it racism or heritage”?
The discussion involved about 25 cadets and 4 professors.
Getting straight to the point:
Even a blind person can see this flag holds heritage. It seems that the families whose legacy may very well live on because of that flag.
White supremacy faught and defended the constitution. The constitution states “We the people” …. we the people who? Whites? Males? From the beginning the Constitution never included African Americans. Whether it being a man, women, or child, none of which were looked at as human beings simply because they were Black. They were all referred to as property and they were treated as such.
This is were the racism part comes into play. What people fail to realize is that you cannot categorize a whole group of people as being racist because a few misinterprets the representation of the flag or uses it in a negative manner.
How did the meaning of the flag evolve over time?
