My writing techniques have been moderately successful for me. I notice, now though, how I follow a specific formula in my head for papers. Since I am a engineering major I tend to think in terms of numbers, equations, what-if statements, and how does something work. This always can be seen in my writing because I always follow the same process. I begin by finding and modifying a thesis statement off of the questions presented to me and then I start plugging in the values that I think will work towards getting a good grade. I generally start the next paragraph based on a word or phrase mentioned in the thesis statement. Then, I argue that point and use a quote to enforce and “prove” my work. This proof is than emphasized, rewritten, and explained. At the end of the paragraph I summarize what I had just said and reexplain the proof. While plugging into the equation of the paper I tend to think to myself what if I explain this or work on that. This than leads to me editing as I go; if I don’t like a word or phrase than I change it.
At the end of writing I go down with the ship. I generally never rewrite a paper unless I completely miss the topic, because of my equation driven mentality I believe if I proved it it has to be write. Its a trait that I don’t always enjoy but is hard to change.
