For the first part of the presentation I focused on Poe’s early life. This basically consisted of his birth all the way into his late teenage years. This article does a great job at basically giving a nice in depth synopsis of Poe’s early life. It gives information like when he was born, what he was known for, his most famous poems, and the unfortunate circumstances he went through during his early life. The article goes from a synopsis of Poe, to his early life, onto his most major works that he most known for, and finally goes into his death which speculates on how he really died since there seems to be much mystery on the subject. This article was especially helpful for our presentation because it gave good specifics about Poe’s love life, his education, and his family situation. I found this source with a quick google search. It was the first one on the least and it seemed to be a fairly decent website. Although the website may not be anything scholarly, by any means, it still gave accurate facts when compared to other sources. On the left the website had quick points about poe, like his occupation and death, and also gave pretty interesting videos at the bottom of the article with citing information. Thi article was great for giving me the basic information I needed to present Poe’s early life but it slacked a little when trying to find reasons for why certain things happened, like why his fiance left him. In general the article was great and its overview was perfect for the start of the presentation.
“Poe’s Life.” Edgar Allan Poe Museum : Poe’s Life, Legacy, and Works: Richmond, Virginia.

This second source was found the same way the first one was. A simple google search pooped this website up right under the first one I found. It is a website about Poe that comes from a museum solely on poe. The museum is a little museum found in an old stone house in Richmond and boasts the world’s finest collection of Edgar Allan Poe’s manuscripts, letters, first editions, memorabilia and personal belongings. This site informed my presentation a little differently. It had all the same information about Poe’s early life but it gave more specifics when it came to certain facts like his love life, his gambling problems, and his family troubles. It also entwined great facts about his life along with his first works and gave a reason for him putting out his first book, joining the army, getting into west point, and leaving west point. It informed my presentation mostly by filling in some missing spots the first website did not catch and confirming the information to be true. It gave specifics and added information like what book he first published and what his overall goals were. The website was strong in giving specific examples and reasonings as to why Poe did what he did. There really weren’t any significant weaknesses in the article solely because it does come from a legitimate source that has a lot of his history down, being a museum. Although even with all of Poe’s early works and life down, they still theorize as to what caused his death, something that seems to elude historians to this day.
