During my reading of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Saadawi’s Frankenstein in Baghdad, I saw many different subjects throughout the stories. These subjects ranged from items as minute as with the location and the reason the creature is seeking revenge to things as big as the change of the author moving the story from a linear horror to a more complex, dynamic horror and suspense story. This can be seen in the way that Saadawi uses the stories of different people’s perspective throughout the story to allow it to jump around and create a sense of growing suspense of when Whatsitsname is going to strike. This ultimately is used to build up the creature’s achievements throughout the time that the creature is on his killing speed.
However, Mary Shelley’s novel focuses more on the linear horror scenario when producing a story. With it, it uses the people’s fears at the time and makes them physical inside of the creature that Dr. Frankenstein creates. This allows the reader to infer on what is going on in the story more rather than making a story that confuses the reader by jumping to many main characters. Ultimately this allows for the ending of the creature not officially dying to be much more impactful rather than Whatsitsname sitting in the bombed out building. This also sets the stage for a possible later feature that pop-culture in the film industry acted upon.
