Reflective Tag: This is the first of my three WeSpeke conversations. I struggled throughout this conversation because it was one of the first times I have held an open conversation in another language. I initiated the conversation with small talk, which led to other, more interesting topics. This artifact was useful in helping me realize the many cultural differences between the United States and the Dominican Republic. For example, I realized that the practice of bribing police officers is all but mandated in the D.R., yet strictly illegal in the United States. This conversation relates to my second WeSpeke conversation in that it gave me an idea of how it feels to hold a conversation in another language. This conversation also relates to my Reflections on Barnga artifact because both showed me the potential frustrations that result from an inability to communicate.
