The civilian and military sides of the resistance each had their own objectives that they were going after during the assassination attempts. The political heads of the resistance wanted to help people get out of Germany and save the people. They wanted a plan for how the government would run after Hitler was killed. Trott and Moltke worked with religious figures during the resistance, and they did not feel right to kill others to reach their goal of a post Hitler Germany. The military side of the resistance did not have as hard of time coming to terms with killing people to get to Hitler. They knew what must be done in order to save their country. They did not have everything figured out, but they knew Hitler had to be stopped before they could do anything. Both sides faced blunders during attempts to kill Hitler. Faulty bombs, miscommunication, time restraints, and loyalty issues were some of the obstacles that both sides had to deal with. In the end, the plot to kill Hitler failed along with their takeover of the government. Even though they failed, they showed that not everyone was like the SS and Hitler. There were still good Germans out there and they needed outside help to stop Hitler. The 20 July plot was a major attempt at his life and brought more attention to the resistance against Hitler.

In my opinion, the movie portrayed the 20 July plot pretty accurately. Even though the actors were mostly American or British, they did a good job playing a German character. Many of the quotes used in the movie were real quotes from Stauffenberg and Beck which added more historical accuracy as well. There were not a lot of plot holes that I saw during the movie that would discredit it. For someone who has not dissected the history of the resistance as much as this class, the movie would seem very accurate, and even to me, it seemed very well done. It definitely helped watching the movie again after having learned about the people involved. Everything made a little more sense once you got to see it all unfold and see the role that each person played in the attempt for Hitler’s life.
