In my consultant’s paper he is arguing that I am an approachable person which can be recognized by viewing my social media sites. There are several things throughout this argumentative essay that are interesting to me. After reading this I realized how little control that I truly have over my own digital identity. All of my interactions on Social media are through other people, because my pictures are posted by others, my conversations are started by others, and my tweets are often retweets of what others post. One thing that I take from the first part of my consultant’s essay is that I need to control my digital identity. With modern technology you can easily lose control of you identity, and I need to do a better job of keeping up to date with my digital interactions. This will help me prevent the development of a false online identity. There are certain characteristics that I wish to portray to my current and future audience that I need to maintain. If I do not control my social media on a regular basis than I will lose control of these characteristics.
After beginning this class project I have made several adjustments to my digital identity in order to improve it. For example I have began developing a strong ePortfolio website through VMI. I have posted for several different classes, and have attempted to make it my own. However, there are many more adjustments that I need to make as my client points out in the second part of his paper. I need to develop a professional site in order to present myself to future employers. I think that creating a linkedin account would be a great idea. I can include many of the ideas that he has presented in my future account. There are also several other things that would be helpful for me to make the focal point of my webpage. In the field of psychology graduate schools are looking for students with experience and proven interest in certain areas. For example, if you want to go to graduate school for clinical psychology admissions is looking for undergraduate research that deals with clinical psychology creating the crediblity that you have an interest in the clinical field as well as little experience working with a professor in that field. I will need to include things that show how interested I am in pursuing the field of my choice. I am doing research this summer, and that is something that I will have to include. I will also have to include all of the extra curricular activities that I am involved in proving that I can handle the work load of a graduate program. Here at VMI I challenge myself as much as possible in order to prove to myself and the future admissions office that I can handle being a graduate student. My consultant presents some valuable ideas that I will be able to use going forward. It is interesting to see the things he picked up on that I would have never even considered if he had not.
