Networks and Stimulation

Prior To Class:

The two chapters from the reading both have a similar connection in that they discuss the idea of the connections between objects signs and technologies. It is through these connections that we are able to build a strong digital identity. Networks are the social arrangement of these different connections. The theories regarding networks, found in the reading, are important to note for our projects, because we must analyze the networks that our client is building. There are many networks that they may not know they have created or formed, as well as networks they need to access in order to accomplish their goals. The chapter on stimulation discusses the different views of perception regarding the changes in our society. This information is important for our project, because we have to be able to view our clients digital identity in several different ways in order to fully understand how it might be perceived.

Post Class Discussion:

After discussing networks, and the effects that internet communication is having on networked individualism my outlook on how to interpret my clients digital identity has changed. It is important for me to consider the publicized conversations and communications that my client has online. I will be evaluating the networks and connections that they are building through how they communicate to others. Is my client building a individualized network? Are they able to communicate with others through the infrastructure that the internet has developed? Is there anything that they should change in order to take advantage of the sustainability of the internet.

The second part of the discussion revolved around simulation technology creates. The question presented by the different theorists revolves around who is in control of whom. I think that this section of the reading can be related to the project by evaluating how my client presents the human side of himself through technology. You have to look at your clients digital identity, and as is what they are presenting controlled by the outlets of the internet, or are they in control of what they are putting out there for the world to see? I personally would argue that even with the advancements of technology and the internet, there will always be a human aspect. The challenge is making sure that the human aspect is in charge, and taking advantage of the tools we have created.

Nodes, their online connections that they may or may not know about.
