What Does It Mean To Write a “Rhetorical Analysis”?

When writing a rhetorical analysis you have to take into consideration the same ideas you would when writing your own piece, however you have to use that knowledge to evaluate someone else’s rhetoric. The reading discussed the importance of, “reading like a writer, watching like a filmmaker, looking like a graphic designer…,” which points to the idea that rhetorical analysis is analyzing the purpose and whether or not the rhetor accomplishes the purpose. The text goes on to lay out some steps for analyzing rhetoric. It gives questions that you should consider when starting the process. It points to the meaning of rhetorical analysis as a way of considering why the person presenting chose to do the things that they did. To write a rhetorical analysis you have to analysis, think critically, and consider what you are reading from the point of view a writer, filmmaker, or designer.
