Should collegiate athletes be allowed to recieve a pay check for playing a sport?

My claim:

  • they are already being payed to attend school
  • already recieved a free education

Opposition:

  • Not given opportunities to obtain jobs due to the amount of time and effort put in to the specific sport
  • These athletes are some of the best and should be compensated
  • They amount of money a specific sport (football) brings in should be allowed to pay there players as an incentive

Questions to the problem:

  • How will this effect scholarship donors and money?
  • How could this positively effect collegiate athletes?
  • How would this effect schools and their ability to pay athletes
  • How could this effect NCAA regulations with recruiting and the difference between collegiate sports and professional?
  • Is a player considered a school employee since being payed by the school? Does the student athlete abide by more rules and restrictions, different from the NCAA?
