Reflection on “Fox 3!” Discourse Community Ethnography

Throughout the process of writing this essay, I always had the paranoid feeling that I had done something horribly wrong in writing it but couldn’t place what this might be. The organization seemed rather decent. All content was germane to its section. But I had little confidence in writing in an academic manner. Despite this, I do feel that, now that I have finished, I feel quite good about how I have organized the essay. It turned out that my paranoia was unjustified. Everything precisely pertained to what the section titles said they did and everything was exactly where it should be within the paragraphs. I also feel that I did well to check my facts and to provide interesting and exciting content in the absence of my “writing voice”. I also feel that my ability to read the paper as if it were not my own has contributed greatly to my ability to edit this essay, which has allowed me to put everything where it should be (and to effectively eliminate my now extinct monolithic sentences). What I have ultimately learned from this is that academic writing is very strict and professional, which makes it the ideal way to carry across ideas related to non-fiction content and theory. Now that I have grown more confident with this style, I can use it to write better essays in the future.
