Downfall Review

Colonel Sunnen

30 April 2015

The movie, Downfall, was a very realistic portrayal of the downfall of Nazi Germany. With very vivid images and an accurate depiction of the war, the movie falls nothing short of excellent. The movie would not be recommended for young children, and is most definitely directed toward the mature person. Downfall was a movie that had you on the edge of your seat and could make even the most emotionless person feel the sorrow of war and the death of millions of people. The characters portrayed their roles exquisitely and demonstrated a strong sense of emotion (or emotionless) attitudes toward their character.

I found the movie to be very factual and a great remembrance of what happened. The movie was very moving and touching and made my heart sink at multiple times throughout the film. It really was able to demonstrate the hardship and pain that people endured. It showed the suffering – you could feel it – and you could see how not only opponents of Hitler suffered, but even the Nazi’s and their families. The fact that even mothers were killing their own children before they killed themselves was absolutely heartbreaking. It was even heartbreaking watching Hitler’s dog being killed. Hitler clearly convinced people of his lies. By the end, even he knew he had lost the war. Although I missed the very beginning of the film, there is no question that this was definitely one of the better films of the Nazi Germany war that I have seen to this day. The perspective of the film was also rather unique, and not many films take the angle of Hitler’s downfall, which is what made the movie, Downfall, a must see film.

19, from Pennsylvania. I run cross country and track and field. I love distance running. I come from a military family – my father is the CSM for the 412th Theater Engineering Command. I enjoy looking at life in a positive manner and helping others in any way that I can. I think that attitude is everything and can affect your everyday life. I believe your dreams are your future, you just have to be willing to work for it. I am a huge girlie girl who loves to wear dresses and high heels, but can flip the switch when need be. Life is great.
