Outline – Late Nights, Last Rites, and the Rain-Slick Road to Self- Destruction
I. Intro
A. Directly relates to the reader in the very beginning by explaining a situation many fellow writers/college students may find themselves in.
B. Draws the reader in by explaining that his seemingly pointless writing has actually made him a better writer, but will not explain how until later in the essay. He uses this sentence as both his thesis as well as a hook for the reader.
II. Body
A. He begins to explain his writing process in this part of his article. He writes of how a friend, just simply reading his essay began to make him realize he was not a “conventional” writer.
B. Although he included many correct details and completed ideas within his essay, the incorrect organization of his paper threw off the way that an onlooker interpreted the paper.
C. The long-windedness of Osbourne’s writing can be considered his downfall. Because he did so little planning ahead of time, his writing, although the ideas were there, was a complete mess. It seems that the entire point of the essay leads the writer to consider a prewriting strategy before beginning a paper to better organize their ideas and make the jumbled ideas in paper become a well structured essay.
