Overview of Focus
One aspect of the novel that I want to have an overview of focus on is the depiction of the creature. I have discussed in assignments before the misconceptions that modern society has about the creature and the name Frankenstein. After Mary Shelley wrote her initial novel, there have been countless renditions of the novel that have changed how the creature is depicted.
I think one of the main reasons behind the creature’s misconceptions are producers ease of relating to audiences. So many people recognize the creature from Frankenstein and most assumed that the creature himself is named Frankenstein. As I discussed in my second essay, many commercials include the creature as it is a way for companies to easily relate to a wide spread audience.
This image shows the creature in a group yoga setting to show how he is embedded into our every day lives. It does not scare the people around him that he is there, which is an idea that has changed from Shelley’s original intentions with her novel.
This is another image of how the creature is depicted in modern day films. He has the cliche bolt neck with green skin. It was a way of depicting the monster that could instill the fear that Shelley intended him to have without having to take a long time in films to unravel his complexity as a character.
