We as responsible gun owners in the United States are proposing a new and updated system in which guns are kept out of criminals hands, and in the hands of the responsible, gun owning Americans. Our system would call for an updated, stricter screening process for those who are purchasing guns, whether that be at a gun show, or a registered and certified gun shop. This stricter screening process would call for a background check on the individual who is purchasing the weapon, a questionnaire about what the gun will be used for, and who the gun will be going to if it is not being purchased for that individual them self. If the purchased gun is going to be given to another individual, then the other individual who will be receiving the gun must come in and be run through a similar screening process before he is able to own a gun. Gun owners who have legally purchased their guns and have nothing to hide will be willing to abide to this system as it allows for safer screening of gun purchasing, limiting the amounts of criminals who can show up and purchase weapons with greater ease. Another update to the system will be a registering of all guns to the government, so that the government will know what guns are legal and those of which that are not. All guns will be registered with a serial number which will be stamped somewhere on the gun. Then, there will be either monthly or bi-monthly checks on the weapons by the government, that way stolen or missing guns can be reported and tracked down, and all responsible owners will be able to still carry their guns without having to turn them over for any reason. Also, any stop made by a law enforcement officer will help in gun control, as they can simply ask for a weapon registration card, updated monthly, and if the apprehended individual does not have one then they will be in trouble. While it may seem that if we implement such strict gun control laws there will be no need for personal guns strictly for the use of personal protection, but just like drugs are illegal, criminals will still get their hands on them if they desire to do so. Guns held by responsible gun owners will keep all Americans much safer as a whole, and limit the use of guns by criminals all over the country. Therefore this is why we must petition to get an updated and safer gun purchasing and control system.
