In high school I had a teacher that made me stop reading non-fiction books because that was all I enjoyed reading because I felt I would get more out of it then a fictional story.  She made me read other books that she liked and she recommended but it was not things that interested me it was books that she thought were good and me and her did not have similar interests at all.  I was able to work around it by bringing in two books and when it was time to read in class I would just move away from the teacher so she could not see what I was reading.
