Yesterday in Class i noticed two paintings that caught my eye. Jahangir embracing Shah Abbas. By Abu’l Hasan. St. Petersburg Album. Mughal period. and the other was ADetail of a Leaf with the Birth of Mahavira. Kalpa Sutra, western Indian school. These paintings are well designed but i will point out some similarities and differences. In Jahangir embracing Sha Abbas you see a peace look due to the warm colors of the painting, red, orange, and yellow. The painting is seems foreground because the painting seems very close up and very detailed. You see Jahangir embracing Shah and also the painter gives jahangir the halo effect to symbolize that he is a strong/important figure of this piece. The painting has good value the colors are light meaning it represents love and loyalty. Jahngir is standing on a lion and Shah is standing on a sheep and those animals represents Gods. Jahangir is standing on the Lion of course being stronger than his son Shah.

Jahangir’s Dream
Detail of a Leaf with the Birth of Mahavira. Kalpa Sutra, western Indian school is similar to Jahangir painting because of the movement and significance of painting. You the mother embracing the birth of Mahavira. Kalpa uses more secondary colors in this painting, green, orange. The texture of this painting does not seem well polished like jahangir

Detail of a leaf with the birth of Mahavira, Kalpa Sutra, western Indian School (probably Gujarat), 1375-1400, Gouache on paper
