In my Early Twenties
The early 20th century has unique work of art. Pablo Picasso’s first communion and Les Demoiselles d’Avignon are my favorite. In Picasso’s first communion it depicts Pablo Picasso’s sister, Lola, at her first communion. The man at her side is either modeled on their father or on Vilches, a doctor and a friend of the family. The young altar boy is Pere, Vilches’ son. He presented it at the Third Exhibition of Fine Arts and Artistic Industries in 1896. Example of Realism because you can actually go to a church and see that exact thing they are doing in the painting very precise, detailed and accurate representation in art of the visual appearance of scenes and objects. The White dress and alter is very bright so represents purity and strength. Picasso wanted to show the transition from childhood to adulthood.

First Communion, 1869
Picasso’s other beauty is the Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. This the most famous example of cubism painting. Cubism is use was made of simple geometric shapes, interlocking planes, and, later, collage. Picasso took another route and implemented distortion of female’s bodies and geometric forms in an innovative way, which challenge the expectation that paintings will offer idealized representations of female beauty. These paintings are alike because they both represent new beginnings meaning sister receiving first communion and the Les Demoisellses being the first example of cubism.
