For Writing and Discussion “Writing Arguments” Chapter 4

1a. Web surfing can be harmful for college students because it is a source of essentially infinite entertainment for people with any interests, and it is very easily accessible for most college students 24/7.  Furthermore, now, more than ever, school assignments require the use of the internet which leaves students just a click away from doing something that they would much rather be doing. They may even tell themselves they’re just going to look at one quick thing, but the seemingly infinite content makes it easy to get carried away for much longer periods of time that would be better spent getting school work done.

2a. It is widely known that students who spend more time studying are more likely to have higher success in terms of grades. College in particular, compared to high school requires a much heavier out of class commitment by the student for success because there is a lot less in class time per course than there is in the average high school course. It’s up to the student to really take responsibility and put in the time on his/her own in order to succeed.
