For Writing and Discussion “Writing Arguments” Chapter 15

The first website I visited was the Washington Post. There was an article about Trump’s plan to build a wall along the Mexican border. Overall, the angle of vision of this site is quite liberal. They immediately insinuate against Trump without backing up there assertions. They also spend a lot more time trying to persuade their audience to fall in line with their opinion then they do presenting facts that supports their stance. Their article relies on the underlying value of equality both in terms of race and trade. The article’s mentions of starting a trade-war makes readers aware of this value. The  site mainly uses pathos and relies on the idea that people reading are already against Trump becuase it isn’t backed up by any significant appeal to logos or ethos.

The second website I visited was Fox News. Their angle of vision was clearly more conservative as they didn’t respons critically to Trumps claims in anyway, but rather just reported on what he said as if it were truth. The degree of advocacy is not as high in Fox however, because they don’t really try to persuade their readers. This website was also pretty shallow on the topic, they didn’t really appeal to any values, which is pretty telling.
