Engineering Memes Rules for Language Use

The language is very informal, with little to no set in stone grammar rules. The tone is always light and humorous. Typically the text is also very concise. The standards for political correctness are also somewhat lower.

In general, these lower standards is a significant example of a difference between print texts and digital media. It is typically much more acceptable on digital media to ignore some of the more formal conventions that print media are traditionally bound by. Humor is also another significant difference. Printed texts in the engineering discourse community are typically blunt, straight forward, and serious. The material on social media is often humorous and exaggerated. These differences improve the appeal of the material to less serious/younger audiences.
