Aesthetics Papers Reflective
Paper 1: This paper discusses Plato’s ideas about the nature of beauty and the concept of forms. It argues that the forms are the truest forms of beauty and that Plato is correct in stating that in our world, we only see a fraction of that beauty. The paper also discusses Hume’s understanding of beauty and how it relates to Plato’s ideas. It concludes by arguing that Plato’s concept of the forms can provide a more comprehensive and holistic view of beauty than Hume’s subjective approach.
Paper 2: This paper compares the ideas of Aristotle and Karl Marx on the topic of aesthetics, arguing that Aristotle’s view is more comprehensive, nuanced, and holistic. The paper discusses Aristotle’s ideas about the nature of beauty, the principles of art, and the emotional effects of art on the audience, as well as the role of the artist in creating beautiful works. It also contrasts Aristotle’s ideas with those of Marx, who had a more utilitarian view of art and its role in society. Overall, the paper argues that Aristotle’s ideas provide a more complete and insightful perspective on aesthetics than those of Marx.
In all these two pushed me to become a stronger writer, by pushing me to really make sure that I was building on ideas and my information built to create a stronger argument. I then ensured to make sure to actually use the notes that I had taken during class which beforehand, I was not, and now that I am it allows me to have more talking points due to the points that we talked about in class. They are great ones that I could elaborate on, rather than try to just make new ones, and instead allowed me to focus more on finding the root argument that I was trying to make in my papers.
