Compare and Contrast Art History I

This paper was an end-of-the-semester work, We chose artwork from our textbook and one artwork from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s holdings that stems from a culture/time period that was covered this semester and is not illustrated in your textbook. It focused on  addressing similarities and differences in form, subject matter, and context.

This assignment taught me a lot in terms of looking for credible sources and reading directions carefully. Additionally, it truly made me realize the importance of noting small differences between two works and how using the correct language to describe the works helps in creating a better understanding for the writer and reader. Also, I learned more about the Italian Gothic style and the inclusion of Christianity showed a side that I had not seen in Christianity before. I also learned that Nicola Pisano had a son named Giovanni Pisano, who he taught his methods for creating relief sculptures and they kept continuing their legacy of art in Italian artwork.

The two works were:

Relief of Annunciation from the Metropolitan Museum of Arts

Annunciation, Nativity and Adoration of the Shepherds by Nicola Pisano
